MICHAEL ANGELO BATIO, TAHITI 2008: SOLD-OUT CONCERT FOR TAHITI'S FIRST EVER INSTRUMENTAL ROCK GUITAR EVENT

Known the world over as one of the greatest rock guitarists of all times, Michael Angelo Batio's blazing performance at the Endeavour Room of the Radisson Hotel on Friday, May 16th, 2008, proved once again that his reputation was in no way usurped. Mesmerized by the technical skills of the man now referred to as Mr. "hands without shadows", the many spectators that had flooded the venue were also in for a special treat with the highly-anticipated live performance of the double guitar solo.

Local acts included new promising artist Anthony Doucet who opened the show, followed by the Michel Poroi, Florent Atem, Daniel Benoit trio, who played a very melodic yet technical acoustic set, before Carole & Florent ATEM took the stage for a few songs off their repertoire. Towards the end of his performance, Michael Angelo invited Carole and Florent to play a song with him onstage - the "Nuclear Blues" - which was greeted by the audience with a standing ovation, a true accomplishment for the Polynesian duo. This instrumental rock guitar event, organized by the A.P.E.A.TA.E. association, was the first ever of its kind to take place in Tahiti.

During the evening, three prizes were awarded to three lucky audience members - a guitar from H2D music store, Carole & Florent ATEM and Michael Angelo Batio CD's, as well as a gift card, courtesy of Tahiti Vanilla Market. After the huge success of this event, the A.P.E.A.TA.E. will certainly keep moving forward towards its goal, which is to help promote musical and cultural exchanges between local and foreign artists.

FLORENT ATEM RECORDING WITH JOHN CUNIBERTI

Florent Atem will be working with John Cuniberti - Joe Satriani's producer and engineer - who has expressed interest in producing a full album with him. - MAY '03:

HENRY KAPONO, TAHITI '03

After performing a few of his greatest hits on some local TV shows in order to give people a foretaste of what they would be treated to, Henry Kapono and his musicians - including Carole & Florent ATEM - performed for more than two hours at Aorai Tini Hau on May 16th, for an audience of contemporary Hawaiian rock fans. Makau Foster's dance troupe opened the show before Henry Kapono's band hit the stage.

Carole Atem was up first, setting a rather dreamlike atmosphere with some of her trademark keyboard tricks. Florent Atem came up second, adding his own touch to the whole picture before Lopaka Colón and Ricky Gilbert - on percussions and drums, respectively - took it to the next level with their hypnotic rythm figures. James Roberts then just had to add his contribution on bass and the epic intro to the whole set was peaking. It was in that mystic ambience that Henry Kapono entered the stage, cheered by an already conquered crowd. The tone for the whole evening was given.

Song after song, the audience got to see a true "genius" - as some local newspaper printed - perform right before their eyes. As usual, Kapono gave the audience both music and love through his one of a kind "sensual rock" - as another paper printed. But everybody in the band also had their moment of glory. Highlights included Lopaka Colón's fine yet powerful percussion work on raher upbeat songs, Ricky Gilbert's impeccable grooves and drum solos within certain tunes, James Roberts' incredibly solid bass playing, Carole Atem's delicate yet astounding keyboard parts and Florent Atem's very personal incendiary rendition of the Santana classic - "Europa".

Georges Bona and Mario Brothers, the two emcees for the night, also did a great job as well as world class engineer Bob St John. In a nutshell, as it is always the case during a Kapono concert, everybody had fun on that very special evening - whether they were in the audience or on stage!

Ricky Gilbert: Drums, Background Vocals

During their stay in Hawaii, Carole and Florent also performed on several occasions and shared the stage again with Jerry Santos from the band Olomana or with artists such as Quino, the lead singer from the group Big Mountain.

Back in Tahiti after three weeks of live performances including a few concerts and interviews on Hawaii's top radio stations, Carole and Florent are now privileged to unveil a part of the show they will be giving with Henry Kapono by presenting the Polynesian audience with exclusive live renditions of his greatest hits, recorded in Hawaii at Kapono's during some of their dates with the Hawaiian superstar last December and January. Two tracks - The Nightmusic and Goodtimes Together - recorded by Félix Atem with Henry's kind permission and mastered by Félix and Florent Atem, can already be heard on local radios...

LIVE WITH HAWAIIAN BAND MAUNALUA

Tahiti has just welcome the band Maunalua. Well-known in Hawaii and also good friends of Carole and Florent's, they brought their traditional Hawaiian sound to the island of Tahiti for two concerts. Carole and Florent had the pleasure to perform as the opening act before being their special guests on both occasions and performing a couple of songs together - Jerry Santos' Ku'u Home O Kahalu'u as well as a slack key guitar duo featuring both Maunalua's lead singer/guitarist Bobby Moderow and Florent on slack key guitar.

FAVORITES CD RELEASE PARTY

Carole and Florent would like to thank all the people who came to their CD release party on October 4th, 2002 at the Mana Rock Café. The venue was especially packed and the audience was able to enjoy Carole and Florent's live versions of all the songs from Favorites among others. Some people also had the opportunity to sing a couple of numbers onstage with the band and the luckiest ones even won their own copies of the record!

At some point in the show, the tables turned and for once the audience sang for Carole: it was also her birthday, indeed! From Carole and Florent, once again thanks to everybody in the crowd for a wonderfully unique night.

FLORENT ATEM ON NEW WAVE NATIVES / HAWAII, JUL.-AUG. '02 TOUR

Two of Florent's new compositions have just been released in Hawaii on a compilation entitled New Wave Natives, a collection of seventeen slack key tunes by artists who are considered to be the hottest new talents in that style.

Being a rock-fusion guitar player, Florent is very proud of being part of the project as a slack key guitarist this time! He is also very happy to hear that Sacred Ground - one of his two compositions featured on the album - has been selected to promote the whole project and is currently on pretty heavy rotation on Hawaiian radio stations.

Carole and Florent are just back from Hawaii after five weeks of concerts and various guest appearances. During their stay there, they had the tremendous honor and privilege to share the stage again with Hawaiian legendary singer/songwriter Henry Kapono who invited them to join his band for the Summer. These were great moments since everybody had fun, both on stage and in the audience. Now, the band is looking forward to renew the experience and share the good times again but in Tahiti this time...

Beside performing as Henry Kapono's musicians, Carole and Florent played with Cecilio & Kapono and gave a few concerts on their own as well, thus taking their trademark pop/rock sound to a few local clubs. Finally, they were also invited by the wonderful traditional Hawaiian band Maunalua as well as other great artists and long-time friends such as John Cruz or Guy Cruz to perform on stage with them.
